01.
Shirabu and Kawanishi were orphans and were raised in a small village which makes Vampire Hunters. They were taken care by Tendo, the Priest of the village. He was one of the most famous Vampire Hunter in the field. He started training Shirabu and Kawanishi since they were around 8.
There's a mystery man Semi, who is a friend of Priest Tendou. He came to their village about 2 years ago. He sometime teached both Shirabu and Kawanishi the technique of martial art, weapons and the knowledge about the myths of Vampires and Werewolves. However, Semi was never a vampire hunter.
The story started when Shirabu and Kawanishi turned 17 and started to join the real field action as newbie hunters.
One day, during a hunting mission, they chased a rogue vampire deep down into the forest. Then, the Lycan's childs showed up suddenly. They trespassed the territory of the werewolves by accident.
Shirabu and Kawanishi as the newbies stayed at the back of their group. Therefore, Shirabu didn’t realize what was happening at the front until there was a painful screaming and all the vampire hunters acted before them drew back.
Shirabu was pushed among the group with a annoying frown, then he raised his head up.
He was stunned.
In front of them, there was a werewolf, a very strong one in his human form standing at the top of a group of stone heap. His claws was holding the broken neck of the rogue vampire that they were supposed to be chasing. There were several werewolves wandering behind him.
He stared down to the frightened hunters with a uncharitable face.
“Leave.”
One word. And that’s it.
The group of vampires hunters murmured with displeased voice and walked back in a hurry that left Shirabu alone standing on the ground looking up to the leader of the pack. He intended to go closer to the werewolves but Kawanishi was just in time to notice Shirabu was missing and turned back to dragged him out.
That was the first time Shirabu saw a live werewolf. He was stunned by the power of the leader of the pack, Ushijima. That’s the name he got from Semi the night they’re back to the village.
From that night, Shirabu could not get rid of the unsettled excitement and desire of the strength of Ushijima in his mind.
Of course, Kawanishi was not pleased for Shirabu's behavior. It’s not right for a vampire hunter to admire a werewolf, no matter how strong and powerful it is. He tried to speak with Shirabu once but he just didn’t listen.
Kawanishi then kept silent about it. He didn’t want to raise the attention of the other villagers. Who know what they might do to Shirabu. Shirabu was his only brother-like close friend. He would protect him in all cost.
02. (NEW!!)
Shirabu was so obsessed with lycanthropes. There was the only person in this village who would be so familiar with this topic and would definitely feel free to share with him.
Therefore, without an second thought, Shirabu went to seek Semi's advice.
Actually, Shirabu always thought Semi and Tendou were different from the rest of the village. Well, Tendou was weird and sometimes might be even seemed to be crazy...but Semi was something else. Semi was always a myth. He's not even from the village in the first place.
Anyway, as Shirabu expected, Semi was open to him and told him a lot about the werewolves. Shirabu spent more and more time with Semi. He kept meeting Semi after his training every night asking about anything he might think of about the werewolves. Sometime, he might even spent the night in Semi’s house.
Kawanishi was worried about Shirabu’s obsession. However, Shirabu was the kind person that is so stubborn of his own decision or willingness and would never listen to other. Kawanishi knew him too well that would decided to keep his distance with it.
Unfortunately, he would regret very soon when he find out what was going to happen and change all the thing he used to have in his life.
It was typical night in the village, Shirabu, as usual, sneaked into Semi’s house after the evening training session. However, he didn’t come for any stories about the lycans that night.
"I want to become a werewolf. I need to meet Ujishima.”
He said in a very certain voice. Semi choked with his cup of herbal tea when he heard it.
Semi warned him with a disapproval expression and said it's a very very bad idea. However, Shirabu insisted with his decision.
Although Semi might not knew him as well as Kawanishi who grew up with him, Shirabu’s characteristic was so easy to understand. All he could do was to explain the risks to him. He told Shirabu that it’s not that easy for a human to be turned into a lycan. Most humans would just be killed painfully during the process. Lycanthrope, unlike the vampires, could reproduce their offspring. Therefore, there was no reason for them to be interested in turning a human into one of them.
Shirabu nodded when Semi finished. Then, he stood up and thanked him for all the advises.
He left the house and picked up the bag he prepared outside the entrance. Semi followed him out and stood by the door. He said to Shirabu one last time that there’s no turning back.
Shirabu looked back and gave him an excited smile. Then, asked him to keep this all a secret to Kawanishi.
Shirabu used the skills he learned from the villagers and Semi to track down the werewolves. It really didn’t take long since he used to be one of the talented vampire hunter trainee in the village.
“Used to be…”
Shirabu sighed when he realized that he could no longer go back to the village to see Kawanishi again. May be he should give him a proper goodbye. But Kawanishi would properly be very mad for his decision and use all he got to stop him. There’s one person in this world he would never want to fight with and it’s Kawanishi.
It’s lucky that Kawanishi was a vampire hunter but not a werewolf hunter.
Shirabu gave a bitter smile and jumped down into a valley.
Once his foot reached the bottom, several werewolves jumped out and surrounded him. He stood strong and looked up. He announced his purpose for coming here that he would like to meet Ushijima.
The werewolves flinged in teeth scornfully.
“Oh, little boy. There’s no Ushijima here.”
That’s when Shirabu alarmed. These werewolves were not from the pack leaded by Ujishima. He must have chased down the wrong tail.
Shirabu put out his dagger with a defending position. The werewolves pounced on him with their claws. Shirabu tried to stab the throat of the werewolves but fail. There were too many of them. He rowed over the grasses and looked around quickly. He was down in a valley and there was no way for him to escape.
He dropped on one knee. He looked down and found his chest was tore up. Blood was leaving his body quickly. Dizziness was trapping him down. He fell on the ground helplessly. The werewolves were gaping their jaws and ready to tear him into parts.
A shadow dropped in front of him and there were coats scattering from distances.
Then, his world turned into darkness.
